Democrats in D.C.: It’s time to end the government shutdown now

As a Democratic candidate for Montana's second congressional district, it is my view that the Democrats in Congress should support a clean continuing resolution to reopen the federal government at once.
In January of this year, things were looking good for America. But Trump’s trade war and the Republican budget bill have sent the economy into a tailspin. Prices are higher, jobs are fewer, and government debt has ballooned. American families are hanging by a thread, and our farmers are in deep trouble. Adding insult to injury, President Trump recently forced Americans to take on $ 20 billion dollars of bad debt from Argentina. Argentina then took our money and turned around and sold soybeans to our competitor, China, making a bad situation even worse for our American farmers.
Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” severely reduced subsides under the Affordable Care Act, and if those subsidies are not restored, health insurance premiums will skyrocket. This is why Republican congresswomen Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has broken from her party and insisted the subsidies be restored. As Rep. Greene has explained, seeing how her adult children would be affected by the removal of the subsidies prompted her to call for the reinstatement of these subsidies, even though she continues to believe that the ACA is a bad law.
I applaud the Democratic Party’s efforts to get the ACA subsidies restored. But now that they have made their point, it is time to back down and reopen the government. Every day of the government shut down causes more pain to American families who have already suffered enough under the Trump Economy. It is now up to the People themselves to force their members of Congress to come to their aid.
