Universal Healthcare for All Americans

In my opinion, a modern, civilized nation

provides healthcare to all of its citizens. 

This should be our objective in America.   

But look at these charts on the U.S. Healthcare

system; they all show that we are failing.

In order to achieve the objective of universal healthcare for all Americans, we need to acknowledge that Greed & Stupidity are the greatest barriers to universal healthcare for all Americans.​We see the effects of Greed in the for-profit healthcare industry.  The CEOs of private healthcare companies make obscene amounts of money and are focused on denying claims.  We must end the "for profit" system of healthcare and switch to a "non-profit" model.

Stupidity comes into play because our systems aren't fully modernized.  There are great technological advances in the healthcare industry which we can use to provide better care to more people.

 

My approach to healthcare reform would involve a smart partnership between the States and Federal Government.  We should set national objectives for universal healthcare, provide financial support at a federal level, but the let the States try different approaches.  Some might want to try Single Payer, some might try the Public Option, some might want to try "Medicaid for All", some might want to try the German "Multi-Payer" systems.  There are different ways to approach this problem.  So long as we are taking the "profit motive" out of the national healthcare equation and focusing on covering claims and maximizing patient choice and care, we should let different States make different experiments.  This is a process and will take some time.

Finally, I support the creation of a National Program of debt consolidation and relief for medical debt.  We need to figure out a way to wipe the slate clean for privately held medical debt, while not allowing healthcare companies to reap a windfall.  Americans currently hold over $ 220 billion of private medical debt.  This is insane and uncivilized.
