21st Century Immigration
Reform

I oppose the Trump policy of mass deportations.

This is what I want to see happen on immigration:

  1. Keep the border secure (Trump does get credit for doing this)

  2. Stop the aggressive use of federal power

  3. Find, arrest, detain, and deport ACTUAL criminals

  4. Get Congress to work on 21st Century immigration reform.

This is actually the classical Republican position on immigration.  Here is what former President Ronald Reagan said when he signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (which allowed 2.7 million undocumented persons to become full U.S. citizens):

“The legalization provisions in this act will go far to improve the lives of a class of individuals who now must hide in the shadows, without access to many of the benefits of a free and open society. Very soon many of these men and women will be able to step into the sunlight and, ultimately, if they choose, they may become Americans.”
